Venting or Spiking Greens

Spiking greens is an old school process that we used to do back in the 70's. Basically you are operating a machine over the turf that has little spikes on them. They make a very small hole in the putting surface. This small hole allows the water to quickly get into the soil profile. The process is non-evasive and can be done very quickly. The disruption to play is very minimal.

We purchased this old used spiker last fall and we pull it with one of our Toro Sand Pro. It is very quick and we can do 18 holes in the morning before the mow or later in the evening before the nightly irrigation.

Here is a video of the process.
