 Cross Training at Work

Many times in the lives of a golf course superintendent you are asked to help out in other departments. Here at DMGCC we have a tennis dome that gets inflated in the fall of the year and it is taken down in the spring. Today was Triple D- Day, Dome Down Day. It takes all of our team to get the task done. It is 40 guys, 4-5 hours to go from a fully inflated dome to playing outdoor tennis. Each section of the dome weighs approximately 5,500 lbs, there are 3 sections and they are folded up on a 10' x 10' pallet and placed in a garage.

The most dangerous part is getting the air out of the dome. We make sure there is no wind, otherwise a "wave" in the fabric can happen and throw the people right off of the dome. This morning there was absolutely no wind and the fabric was dry. It was a perfect day and the team did it in record time.

Here is a photo just getting the air out.

Here is a photo moving one barrel of the dome.

Lastly here is a video we took a couple of years ago demonstrating how much physical labor it takes to drop it, take it apart and roll up 1 barrel.
