Emerald Ash Borer Treatment - May 23, 2022

It has been 2 years since we have treated our key ash trees for Emerald Ash Borer. Today we treated key trees around the swimming pool and along the clubhouse parking lot. We wanted to get these areas done before we have the upcoming holiday weekend.

The process to treat these trees has become much easier than it was 10 years ago. We treat approximately 150 green and white ash trees. We first do a measurement called "Diameter at Breast Height" or "DBH".

Once we know the DBH we then look at a worksheet that tells us how many tubes of treatment will be needed to treat that particular tree.

Treatment is very easy.We use a 1/4" drill bit to drill a hole 2" deep from the outside bark. The cartridge is loaded into a holder. The tube is placed into the tree and the product is then put under pressure from a spring and is forced into the cambium layer of the tree. This is a systemic insecticide that goes through the vascular system. The Emerald Ash Borer then comes in contact with the product and is eradicated. This treatment will protect the ash tree for 2 years.
